Hurricane Sandy

On October 29-30, super storm "Sandy" crushed local communities as well as several neighboring states, leaving over 90% of residents without power. Incredibily strong sustained winds and rain left many homeowners with uprooted trees, downed power lines and intensive damage.

One of the reasons why Sandy caused so much destruction, was the wall of water it pushed in front of its path as it moved up the New Jersey coast towards New York, creating a huge storm surge. Coastal communities were flooded by these record surges and many communities were left in ruins with families forced to evacuate to local shelters while others were trapped in their homes.

As we go to press there are still many families left without power due to transformer problems and as temperatures continue to drop many residents are heading to warming centers and shelters.

Most importantly, our thoughts and prayers are sent to those who lost so much during this storm as many families have been left homeless.
