Republican Club

The Theodore Roosevelt Republican Club of Bethpage was formed, June 14, 1920. However, the roots of Republicanism go back further.

The Farmer's Republican Club of Central Park held its first meeting on October 9, 1891. This was before Nassau County came into existence. Unfortunately, we have no knowledge of when it ceased to exist. If anyone reading this has knowledge of the club's demise, we would certainly appreciate hearing from you.

In addition, there was a Lincoln Republican Club that met at Lincoln Hall on Central Avenue. The hall was eventually demolished. The Club was formed in 1918 and a Ladies Auxiliary was established in 1919. Again, there is no written record of when the Club ceased to exist.

In the 1930's an Italian-American Republican Club was formed and later was absorbed by the Theodore Roosevelt Republican Club.

.The present meeting hall, the American Legion Hall on American Legion Drive and owned by the Legion, was purchased by the Theodore Roosevelt Republican Club from the U. S. Government and used as its headquarters. It was sold to the Archie McCord Post #86 American Legion on October 3, 1949 with a proviso that the Republican Club be permitted the use of the building for fifteen meetings a year.

The club was named after Teddy Roosevelt Sr., the 26th President of the United States.

Today the purpose and goals of the Theodore Roosevelt Republican Club and the Republican Party are to promote good government and inform the public of what is taking place at all levels of government. Office holders, candidated and political leaders come to the meetings to explain the functions of their office.

The process of government and politics are the topic of discussion and the position taken by the Republican party and their meaning in the overall picture of our government in our lives.

Election laws are explained. The nominating process for primary and general election: the procedure of getting potential voters registered, the dates and time of voting and deadlines for registering the new voters.

The Theodore Roosevelt Republican Club meetings are held the second Monday of every month except during July and August. The meeting includes a question and answer period at which time your questions will be answered. Refreshments are served.
