Dr. Lois Rafenski, lifelong resident of Bethpage, and a Professor of Nursing at the State University of New York College of Technology at Farmingdale was awarded the annual Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching by the State University of New York. Dr. Rafenski is one of three SUNY Farmingdale Professionals to receive this award, which also includes Excellence in Professional Service and Excellence in Librarianship.

Dr. Rafenski graduated Farmingdale's first class in Nursing in 1964, as a student she developed the urge to teach. Seven years later she fulfilled her goal, working in the meantime as Head Nurse in the Emergency Room at North Shore Hospital. In addition to her service with various professional nursing associations, she continues to make valuable contributions including the Programs in the Arts Committee and the Enrollment Management Policy Committee.
