Jake was born in Central Park in 1927 on his grandmothers farm, Mrs. Andrew Neder. The Neder farm ran parallel to South Oyster Bay Road from the railroad tracks to Central Avenue.

As a nine year old boy, together with his older brother Ray and sister, Adeline, watched the construction of Grumman Plant #1. The area around the site was at one time a polo field (purchased by Grumman in 1936).

Jake contributed an article "Grumman Comes to Central Park" which is a part of our Grumman file and appeared in the CPHS Newsletter in three parts in 2007.
