Stephen Karopezyc

First Lieutenant Stephen E. Karopezyc - Vietnam Medal of Honor Recipient. Stephen attended Island Trees Elementary School, then graduated from Chaminade High School in 1961. Stephen joined the army in 1965 after his graduation from Spring Hill College in Mobile Alabama. He served in the U. S. Army as 1st Lieutenant during the Vietnam War. Stephen received the Medal of Honor for his bravery in Vietnam. March 12, 1967 Stephen gave his life for his efforts to aid his fellow soldiers - above and beyond the call of duty. Spring - 2013 a memorial was put in place in the Bethpage Rotary Memorial Garden on Stewart Avenue.
The proud parents of Stephen, Edward and Katherine, proudly accepted the medal, posthumously, and proudly display the medal in their home. The Medal of Honor was created during the American Civil War, and is the highest military decoration presented by the United States government to a member of the armed forces. The medal is respected around the world.
