Longtime resident of Central Park/Bethpage. Employed as a well driller by C. W. Lauman of Bethpage. Lifetime member of the Bethpage Fire Department, and contributor of articles to THE BETHPAGE TRIBUNE. Wife Stella and parents of four children. (Information from THE BETHPAGE TRIBUNE August 3rd, 2001)

The below information was sent to the Central Park Historical Society in 1999 by Antonio Mancuso, now livining Florida.

My family moved from Brooklyn to Central Park in 1921 into a house that used to be a barrack for the U. S. soldiers training for WWI in Mineola. It was moved from Mineola to Central Park in 5 sections. My father hired Mr. Hogen, a carpenter, to reassemble the house for us to live in. That took several weeks, then we had a well drilled for water by the Laumann Brothers, (Charles and Fred Laumann). Our house was on the south side of the railroad tracks on Sherman Avenue.

At that time we were a family of seven persons (parents and five children). After we moved to Central Park two more children were born, Theresa (Iannacone) and Louis Mancuso. The 1st five were: Antonio, Katie, Johnny, Dominick and Joseph all born in Brooklyn.

We lived in that house until WWII begun and the U. S. Navy condemned the land because it needed it for war use at Grumman. We were given $2250.00 for our property, which was put as a down payment on another house on Stewart Avenue, that was about 1940. My mother and setpfather lived there until they passed away. My mother passed away in 1981, she was 90 1/2 years of age.
