September 2006 the Elija School for children with Autism was opened in the United Methodist Church on Broadway. An exciting time for founding families, parents, and staff all eager to start to go to work to unlock the many passageways that interfere with the autistic child ability to learn and socialize. The school takes its name and inspiration from the Biblical prophet Elija who, facing great trials, overcame a sense of abandonment to be rewarded in the end for his great faith. Sadly the school closed in 2007 and moved to a larger facility.
