William V. Doyle was born in Brooklyn 42 years ago, and his family moved to Central Park in 1921 when he was 7 years of age. His family home was located across the street from the new high school in Bethpage on Broadway. Bill attended the Powell Avenue School and later Hicksville High School. He was one of the first "selectees" who volunteered to go into the army for what was supposed to be six months training. "I thought I'd put in my six months and get it over with" says Bill, but along came WWII and six months turned out to be five years. Three of the years were spent in the Pacific as a combat engineer.

A few months before his discharge in 1945, Bill married, "the girl he left behind", Harriet. Harriet was one of the famous Radio City Music Hall Rockettes. They were married on April 30, 1945 in Seaford near the Doyle family's summer cottage.

Bill Doyle, local real estate and insurance agent. He claims the Bethpage residents are more choosy in buying a home then they use to be. He said, years ago a two bedroom house was sufficient, now everyone wants three and four bedroom homes.

Bill took over his father's business in 1945, runs the agency which is now known as the William V. Doyle Agency at 314 Broadway, across the street from Bethpage Nash.

He can remember his father selling Bethpage porperty in 1939 for $3,500.00 which was resold ten years later for $35,000.00. The prices are still on the way up. Fifteen years ago lots sold for $27.00 are now selling for $1,000.00.

Bill is second vice-president of the Kiwanis Club, in which he also serves as chairman of the committee for underprivileged children in Bethpage; he is a charter member of the Veteran's of Foreign Wars; a member of the Board of Directors of the Little League; a member of the Bethpage Board of Fire Commissioners; a volunteer fireman in Engine Company #1, as well as a member of the rescue squad. In addition he is a Bethpage Fire Inspector, and is required to inspect all business establishments, factories, etc., in town, as well as, to direct fire drills every two weeks in Bethpage schools. Bill is a member of the Nassau County Volunteer Firemen's Association; co-chairman, with his wife Harriet, of the Powell Avenue PTA recreation committee; he worked as finance committee chairman of the anual Boy Scout Drive in Bethpage.

The Bill Doyles live at 383 Broadway, with their two children, Michael Patrick age 8 and Kathleen age 5. Both children attend Powell Avenue School where their father once studied and love it.

Bill is involved in several sporting activities: playing golf with a local group, bowling and his firm sponsors a team in the Bethpage Businessmen's league, and playing softball with the Bethpage Kiwanis.
